About Miriam
Hi my name is Miriam. I believe that everything in life happens for a reason. My reason is why I have written this web site. I was brought up in a quasi-conservative family which seemed to be typical during the 1950’s. We went to shul during the high holy days and occasionally for a bar or bat mitzvah. Though I was told endlessly that “you need to marry a Jewish boy”, I really had no knowledge of what Judaism was all about.
Now that I am a mother of 7 and grandmother of 10 I realize the importance of learning about my Judaism, about bringing up my children with Jewish traditions, such as the beauty of Shabbat. I see how important it is of giving my family the gift of a Jewish identity. This plus my love of cooking has inspired me to write this website. I continue to learn every week when I write to you on portionofparsha.com. We live in an overwhelmingly non-Jewish society and intermarriage rates have skyrocketed! Use this website as a way to educate, not only yourself but your children, grandchildren and friends. Hopefully you can make your weekly Shabboses more meaningful , enjoyable and educational. Teach your friends and or family the beauty of the Shabbos and discuss with them the weekly parshas. Try to be creative in arranging your menus in order to add excitement and enthusiasm to your study of Torah.
Shabbat Shalom!
Miriam
